All objects emit radiant energy
Three forms of emitters:
Passive inanimate objects (doors, chairs, walls, etc.)
Active animated objects (humans and animals)
Direct Source high energy producers (flames, burning objects, chemical reactions, the sun, etc.)
Radiant energy is perceived as heat

| What is infrared radiation? |
Electromagnetic waves the body perceives as heat radiation. The portion of the Electromagnetic Spectrum just below visible light. Infrared range is broken down into 3 bands
Near Infrared - 1-3µm
Mid Infrared - 3-5µm
Far Infrared - 8-12µm (also known as Long Wave Infrared).
Fire Thermal Imagers perform in Far Band.
